Elgin 17 Jewels "Streamline" (#0503114)
The Elgin
watch co was founded in 1864 and during its lifetime produced more jewelled
watches than any other American company.
Take a look at this lovely 17 jewels Elgin "streamline" pocket watch. It is in very good condition and is housed in a lovely 10k white gold filled case which shows very little signs of wear & is elegantly engraved around the bezels.
The crystal is scratch free and the dial
is a wonder to behold. It is probably silver and is double sunk. It has an "art
deco" look to it and the
slight ageing around the rim adds to its charm. The uppermost sunken portion is
embossed with leaves and bears the legend "Elgin". The lower sunken portion
houses the seconds dial.
The watch hands are "Lozenge mitre" and are a lovely dark blue steel.
The rear of the case is very lightly engraved with a songbird on a branch and a small vacant cartouche.
Opening
the back reveals a very clean & tidy movement
which
bears the serial number 30634606 dating this watch to 1927.
I believe this movement is a size 12.
The top plate bears the legend "Elgin Natl Watch Co. USA. 17 Jewels. I believe this movement has a ruby & sapphire balance & centre jewels. Double roller escapement, exposed pallet stones, cut expansion balance, breguet hair spring with micrometric regulator & damascened plates.
This
watch is running strong & keeps good time.
All in all a lovely example of an Art
Deco Elgin pocketwatch which can be yours
