The Elgin watch co was founded in 1864 and during its lifetime produced more jewelled watches than any other American company.
Wow
!!! take a look at this lovely 17 jewels
Elgin size 18 pocket watch in
a 14k gold filled case. It is in excellent condition.
The crystal has minimal scratches considering this watch dates from 1899.The dial is in excellent condition with no signs of chips , cracks or hairlines. It is porcelain & is counter sunk to house the seconds dial.
It is very elegant with roman numerals and the legend "Elgin" beneath twelve o'clock.
The watch hands are "American
Spade" and
are a lovely dark blue steel.
Opening the back reveals a very clean & tidy 17 Jewel movement which bears the serial number 7,257,530 dating this watch to 1899 and the legend "Elgin Natl Watch Co, U.S.A, 17 Jewels adjusted & safety pinion. The movement is beautifully damascened. I believe this movement is a size 18.
The case itself bears a hallmark "14K, Essex superior" and a serial number 589387. It is in very good condition and is a "swing ring" design with fantastic engraving. The rear of the case is illustrated with a leaping deer & country scene which is difficult to photograph. All told the case shows minimal signs of wear for its age.
This watch is running strong & keeps great time.
All in all a fantastic example of a 17 Jewel open face 14k gold filled Elgin pocketwatch which can be yours for only £230 !!!
