Elgin 17 Jewels (#0503116)
The Elgin
watch co was founded in 1864 and during its lifetime produced more jewelled
watches than any other American company.
Take a look at this lovely 17 jewels Elgin size 16 pocket watch. It is in very good condition and is housed in a nickeloid case which shows signs of wear due to daily use. The cartouche on the rear is just visible.
The crystal is scratch free and the dial is in good condition with no signs of chips , cracks or hairlines. It is porcelain & is counter sunk to house the seconds dial.
The watch hands are "Roskopf" and are a lovely dark blue steel.
Opening
the back reveals a very clean & tidy 17 Jewel movement which
bears the serial number
38,918,346 dating this watch to 1939
and the legend "Elgin Natl Watch Co, U.S.A, 17 Jewels..
I believe this movement is a size 16.
This watch is running strong & keeps good time.
All in all a nice example of a 17 Jewel open face Elgin pocketwatch which can be yours for only £80 !!!
