Movado was founded in 1905 (Movado means "always in motion" in Esperanto} and is renowned for its innovation and quality. A key milestone occurred for Movado in 1947 when Nathan George Horwitt, an adherent of the Bauhaus design movement, and one of Americas outstanding designers, set out to design a watch stripped to its essentials. The result, the Movado "museum" watch, is a legend in modern design. "We do not know time as a number sequence but by the position of the sun as the earth rotates" he eliminated numerals from the dial and symbolised the sun at noon by a gold dot and the movement of the earth by the hands. Influenced by the clean lines of the Bauhaus this beautiful watch was selected by The Museum of Modern Arts to join it's permanent collection in 1959.
